Individual excellence is recognized with prestigious awards such as the Golden Boot, Golden Ball, and Golden Glove.
The first edition in 2021 was held in support of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup, providing an exciting platform for football fans in Qatar to enjoy competitive matches and celebrate the sport. Since then, Chaliyar Doha has successfully conducted the first four editions up to 2024, consistently promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and cultural identity while strengthening community engagement around football within the Indian expatriate community.
Chaliyar Day is celebrated on January 11, marking both the formation of Chaliyar Doha and the remembrance of K.A. Rahman Sahib, a prominent activist who led the historic Chaliyar River protection movement in Kerala. Inspired by his legacy, Chaliyar Doha was officially formed on this day in 2015.
In the founding year itself, Chaliyar Doha organised a major discussion forum attended by Presidents of several Grama Panchayaths situated along the Chaliyar River, representatives of the Collectors of Malappuram and Kozhikode, as well as MLAs and MPs. The discussions focused on river conservation, reducing pollution, maintaining river cleanliness, and identifying practical approaches to protect and preserve the Chaliyar River. Chaliyar Day continues to highlight the organisation’s environmental roots and deep commitment to sustainability and ecological awareness.
Environmental commitment is one of the strongest pillars of Chaliyar Doha. The organisation conducts a wide range of impactful activities every year, with major initiatives focused around World Environment Day through programs like EcoForm, where students and families create models and crafts from recycled materials under sustainability themes such as “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” and “Beat Plastic Pollution.”
In addition to this, Chaliyar Doha regularly organises tree plantation drives, especially on World Environment Day, along with a series of awareness sessions, seminars, live talk shows, and public oath-taking ceremonies across important global environmental observances such as World Water Day, World River Day, and other sustainability-themed days. These initiatives spread strong messages on river protection, water conservation, environmental protection, and sustainable living among the expatriate community.
The Chaliyar Sports Fest is one of the flagship annual events of Chaliyar Doha, held every year on the second Tuesday of February as part of Qatar National Sports Day celebrations. Initiated in 2015, the festival has successfully completed its 10th edition and continues to be an eagerly anticipated event each year.
The Fest provides a vibrant platform for sports enthusiasts from the Indian expatriate community—including women, children, and youth—to actively participate and showcase their athletic talents before a large audience. Over the years, Chaliyar Doha has organized this event consecutively, promoting healthy lifestyles, physical fitness, and community well-being. The Sports Fest features a wide variety of competitions, including football, cricket, badminton, swimming, athletics, and numerous family-friendly activities, making it a major highlight for the expatriate community and fostering unity, wellness, and camaraderie among participants.
On October 26, 2018, Chaliyar Doha organized the “Sahavasam 2018” Leadership Training Camp for the elected representatives of the 24 Panchayaths along the Chaliyar River. The camp, held at Dukhān, Doha, was conducted under the motto: “Good Leadership for a Better Tomorrow.”
The sessions were led by distinguished speakers, including Advocate K.K. Isuddin, Dr. U.K. Asad, D.T.M. Sameer Moosa, and Mashhood Thiruthiyad. The program was formally inaugurated by Retired Higher Secondary School Principal Abdul Wahid Master Chaliyam, who welcomed participants and officially opened the leadership camp, setting the tone for learning and community-focused development.
