This southernmost panchayat is entirely bordered by the Chaliyar River—a land that witnessed the historic struggles along Chaliyar.
The arrival of the industrial giant Gwalior Rayon, attracted by the river’s water resources and Malabar’s natural wealth, brought a new awakening to Mavoor’s economic, social, and cultural spheres. Since people from many states of India settled in this industrial area, Mavoor also became a hub of diverse cultures.
However, as the factory simultaneously discharged polluted water into the river and cleared forests, destroying agricultural lands, public anger erupted.
The factory eventually shut down due to the environmental protests led by Vazhakkad’s brave environmentalist and Chaliyar’s martyr, K. A. Rahman. Today, both the factory site and Mavoor stand as a testimony to the people’s struggle and courage.
Around 30 years ago, the youth of Mavoor formed the Jawahar Sports and Arts Club, which continues to uphold the village’s cultural heritage and remains a symbol of Mavoor’s community pride.
