Areekode is believed to have derived its name from being a region inhabited by people who extracted iron from sand-like ore. It is also said that the name evolved from Aruvikkode, meaning a place by the riverbank, which later became Areekode. Its proximity to Manjeri, Nilambur, and Kozhikode has geographically supported the commercial growth of the town.
From early times, Areekode has been known as an educational center. With a rich football history, this land is often referred to as the “Mecca of football.”
Flowing past the calmness of the village, the Chaliyar River slowly begins its journey into the bustle of the town.
