RAMANATTUKARA

The northwestern boundary of Ramanattukara Panchayat is marked by the Chaliyar River.
Legend has it that a river called Ravanaru once flowed through Chaliyar and joined the Kadalundi River. The name “Ravanattukara” originated from this riverbank land, and over time it transformed into what is now called Ramanattukara. The land was historically ruled by the Parappanad royal family, vassals of the Zamorin.

This land also played a role during Tipu Sultan’s military campaigns and became a stronghold for the Sarvodaya movement during anti-British protests.
Ramanattukara Panchayat is picturesque, with its collection of paddy fields, hill areas, plains, lowlands, and wetlands. The area is known for traditional industries such as coir processing, brick-making, pottery, and terracotta work.

Educationally and culturally, Ramanattukara is elevated by the presence of Farook College, a prominent higher education institution within the panchayat.
