CHEEKODE

Cheekode was once ruled by the Cheekode Kovilakam as a feudal state under the Zamorin. It is a land that holds the historic legacy of the Omanur martyrs who fought against feudal oppression and embraced martyrdom. Cheekode Panchayat has a rich and proud historical background. It is a large panchayat comprising 18 wards, including important stretches of the Chaliyar River and places like Vavoor, Vettuppara, and Pallippadi along its course.

Streams flowing through the foothills of Meppatta Hills, along with small waterfalls, join together to strengthen the flow of the Chaliyar River. After its long journey through Malappuram district, the river flows onward from Cheekode Panchayat into Kozhikode district.
