Kizhuparamb is bounded by Kozhikode district to the north, Cherupuzha to the east, and the Chaliyar River to the southwest. Formed on 1 August 1977 from Urangattiri Panchayat, it has made significant progress in education, social development, and cultural life over the past four decades.
Blessed with rivers, hills, plains, and fertile fields, the area is known for its natural beauty. Traditionally an agricultural community, the people also engage in folk arts, drama, and boat races, bringing life to the riverside during festivals.
Educational institutions, including colleges and training centers, have nurtured talents like Dr. Harikumar, a geoscientist. The Pazhamparambu Asylum serves the visually challenged.
Kizhuparamb has a proud freedom struggle history. The British first used dynamite in India at the Thrikkalayur temple. Local heroes Kutti Hassan Shaheed and Beeraankutty Shaheed sacrificed their lives for independence. The community has produced cultural and sports luminaries such as Karatt Kunjippokkar, Unnimoni Ummini, K.V. Moosa Sullami, and Olympian K.T. Irfan. Its folk drama “Vithum Kaikkottum”, written eight decades ago, is now taught in schools and represents the area’s artistic legacy.
In Qatar, the Kunyil Expats Association (KIA Qatar), formed in 2012, has led humanitarian efforts during the 2018–2019 Chaliyar floods, supported community welfare, and organized cultural events like the Magician Muthukad show. Alongside KIA, KEPW Qatar (Kizhuparamb Panchayat Welfare Association) represents the broader diaspora, promoting education, charity, and social engagement for the homeland and expatriates alike.
Together, these organizations reflect the unity, heritage, and resilience of Kizhuparamb, connecting its people across continents while celebrating the spirit of the Chaliyar River.
